How do you make scroll titles in FCP?

Hello all. I have Final Cut Studio 2 (you know, with FCP 6, LiveType 2, etc.).

The titler in FC is absolute rubbish, I can't see how to make different font sizes or stiles within the same scrolling text. And justifying the text is just a dream...

LiveType is good for making all those stupid things with titles, make the letters dance, turn, all that bulls***, but I'm becoming dumb to make a simple scroll title!

I just want to know if there's a way to make it like in the Premiere Pro titler, in which the text is constrained to a box, then it expands down all the needed lenght, and you can set different fonts, sizes, colors, etc. to different portions of the text within the same box.

Can I do something like that inside FC, in LiveType, or have I to import the formatted and justified text from InDesign or Photoshop?

Apart from Soundtrack Pro, that's the weakest part of FCS and i'm amazed it's not been updated.

The way i do it now is all in Photoshop and Motion. or just motion.

Generate your big long scroll of text, and then keyframe to slide up past the frame at the speed and the size you want.

May be a daft process but when you want to add pictures and logos too...then it's just easier that way.

hope that helps.

Have you tried Boris title 3D and title crawl?

I second that: Title Crawl will do what the OP has asked for.

For what it's worth, I still use Photoshop.

Photoshop

You can also use Adobe Photoshop. That way you can add a beveled edge, etc.
1. Make the PS page 720 pixels wide or 1280 whatever your sequence is.
2. Make the length really long like 3000 pixels or more for HD
3. Use 72dpi for resolution
4. Add your text and format it how you want.
5. Save it as a .png file or a pict file with Alpha
6. Import it into FCP
7. Use key frames to make it scroll

The text looks better than the FCP titler and changes are easy to make.

Using Photoshop, I'm still limited to a height of 4096 pixels, right? Anyone knows a way around that limitation?

Thanks,
Martin

Finally I have typed the text in InDesign, then copy&paste to Photoshop, made a 720x960 transparent PSD, imported that into FC, and make it roll with the Motion tool.

Could it be simpler?

(PS: As Homer Simpson said once, 'I was trying to be SARCASTIC!')

The Boris scroll title is about as simple and easy as it gets.
