Motion 3 tutorial
I'm working on a project and need to learn how to do an effect where the video stops and the background changes and then the video restarts again. I don't know if im explaining it correctly so I have an example of what i'm talking about. If you look at the 1:36 mark you can see what im talking about. http://www.aetv.com/the_first_48/vid...tid=1674735033

Typically this is done with masks and hold frame. You essentially manually cut out the portion of the frame you want to isolate with a tight bezier mask and hold on that frame while things change.

it. See here for a GREAT tutorial on exactly how to do this: http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/queer_eye.html |
There you go exactly. Beware it like Matrix freeze cameras and speed ramps is a little cliche. But as a starting point for something new it might be a good thing.

Question. I tried following the tutorial and getting the picture from FCP 6 and moving it Photoshop to cut. But the aspect ratio was all jacked up and I don't know how to get fcp to keep the ratio when exporting the still image. Any suggestions?

Depends on what your video format is. 720x 480 NTSC with rectangular pixels isn't the same as 720x480 with square pixels on your computer monitor.
This link might help. http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/basic_ps.html |
Some times Photoshop does this weird aspect ratio correction thing... you need to go to Image>Pixel Aspect Ratio>Delete Aspect Ratio. I think that will fix the distortion.
