FCP update now available

The first updates to FCP 4, Livetype, Soundtrack, Compressor and Cinema Tools are now available from Apple.

Aaron Rosen August 13th, 2003 11:12 AM

What does it fix?

Jeff Price August 13th, 2003 11:21 AM

According to Apple...

Final Cut Pro 4.0.1 update is now available through Software Update Preference.
This update will install

Final Cut Pro 4.0.1
This update includes fixes and performance improvements for Final Cut Pro 4. Improvements have been made to auto-select functionality, subclips, match frame, and timeline editing. Effects and filter performance have been improved, as have variable speed, audio playback, and text generator performance. This update also fixes some rare cases in which the application stops responding. Final Cut Pro 4.0.1 is strongly recommended for all users of Final Cut Pro 4.

Cinema Tools 2.0.1 for Final Cut Pro 4
This update includes improvements to provide better handling of Batch Reverse Telecine operations and better support for the 16mm-20 film format and ink numbers. In addition, change lists will now properly display clip names and match-backs can be performed even if the clip and sequence frame rates are different. Cinema Tools 2.0.1 is strongly recommended for all Final Cut Pro 4 users.

Compressor 1.0.1 for Final Cut Pro 4
This update adds international support and includes improvements to one-pass VBR accuracy for MPEG-2 encoding. In addition, Compressor 1.0.1 is strongly recommended for customers using both Shake and Final Cut Pro 4 on the same system.

LiveType 1.0.1 for Final Cut Pro 4
This update includes fixes and performance improvements for LiveType. The update adds international support and improves extrusion quality, keyframing, Media Browser navigation, and memory management. LiveType 1.0.1 is strongly recommended for all users of LiveType 1.0 for Final Cut Pro 4.

Soundtrack 1.0.1 for Final Cut Pro 4
This update includes fixes and improvements to Audio Units compatibility, cut/paste/delete behavior, automation envelope adjustment, mute/solo behavior, and clip speed adjustment. Soundtrack 1.0.1 is strongly recommended for all users of Soundtrack 1.0 for Final Cut Pro 4.

You must install the Pro Application Support package before these updates will appear in Software Updates.

They sound like welcome improvments. Thanks for the heads up.

IN regard to the Live Type Update. What about the key frames does it fix. DO they actually work now?

Jeff Price August 13th, 2003 12:47 PM

I haven't seen any real user reports on fixes for LT yet. Most people seem to be happy with the fixes to FCP4.

At this point in time you apparently can only update via the software updater. Apple says standalone updates will be available later.

Jeff,

<<Pro Application Support package>>

Who?...Wha?? Where dat be?

Ken Tanaka August 13th, 2003 08:34 PM

John,
My thoughts exactly. But, as it turns out, this is a new item of software, also. It shows up in the standard Software Updater. Try.

Richard DuPree August 14th, 2003 08:28 AM

I swear that I've looked all over the Apple website and can't find any info on this. Can you give me a link? Thanks.

John Locke August 14th, 2003 08:31 AM

Methinks I've been snubbed. I'm still on 10.1.5, so it's not coming up on the update even though I have newest versions of iMovie and iTunes.

No problem, I'm waiting for the next system release and I'll update then.

Jeff Price August 14th, 2003 09:14 AM

For now the only way of updating is via the software updater. The Pro application support is part of the update for FCP 4. So, if you don't have FCP 4 then I don't think it will appear. If you do have FCP 4 then the Pro Application Support tool should download first then when you run the updater a second time it will update the rest of the applications.

If you have changed the name of the folders for any of the applications then software update will not work for the download.

Apple says they are working to put it up for more general downloading but gave no time frame.

A bit more detailed explanation on fixes -

How big is the update? I only have dial-up. Or would it be better to wait for a stand-alone?

Jeff Price August 15th, 2003 03:08 PM

Once the updates are available seperately you can always take a CD-R into the local Apple store to get the updates. The local CompUSA MIGHT do it as well.

Jeff Chandler August 15th, 2003 04:13 PM

Sounds like a plan. Thanks Jeff.
