I've used ImToo Ripper which gives you a variety of formats to choose from. I usually choose avi or wmv, (but there's a whole list of other file types to pick from as well). I use dvdxdv, could not be more easy, you can convert dvd to any format. works fine on a mac.. google it and you will see...
