Burning from iDVD - how long does it take?

Hi all,

I was just wondering how long does it take approximately to burn a 20 minute movie to DVD media through iDVD.

Thanks.

What speed burner and media are you using?

I don't have a DVD burner yet. I am hoping to buy the 1x DVD burner to install into my Cube.

My processor is a G4-450 Mhz.

thanks.

I don't believe it will work with a Cube. The Cube is slot loading and to the best of my knowledge there are no slot loading DVD burners. Even if you could install it, I'm not sure iDVD would recognize that configuration. iDVD does not recognize external DVD drives.

In fact there are 2 SuperDrives that would work with the G4 Cube. One is from MCE the other one from OWC. Both support iDVD, DVD Studio Pro, iTunes and a host of other Apple iApps.

They're pretty expensive though.

ps - these guys also make SuperDrive upgrades for iBooks and PowerBooks.

Thanks.

The first DVD will take quite a while as the program encodes, checks, etc. Each additional DVD after that one is pretty much 1:1 - so 20 minutes for a 20 minute DVD on a 1x DVD burn, etc.

Depending on bit rates etc. the first one may take as long as an hour or two for the first build. iDVD will work in the background, but it will really drag your performance down. If this is an occasional project, your Cube might suffice. But I think you'll find it painstakingly slow for complex projects.
