Suggestions for a Flat Panel 17" for the G5?

Hello All,

I'm doing some video editing on the G5, but can't afford the
Apple flat panel display.

Any suggestions for a non-Apple brand, 17" flat panel, which
would do an acceptable job for less money?

Thanks,
Dan

Not sure what you're looking for, but Sony makes a 17" 16:9 HD panel with 1280x768 resolution. The nice thing about this display is that it will also take composite, S-video and component inputs. I believe there's still a rebate in effect, saw one at CompUSA for around $750 the other day. The model number is SDM-V72W

The apple 17" is only $699 and is a fantastic display. If you want to go cheaper but still want a high quality display, a 19" CRT would give the same resolution/ppi and be much cheaper.
If you want to stay digital, www.smalldog.com carries refurbished apple 17" panels for $599.

Anyone had experience with the Formac displays?

Thanks

Thanks guys for the info on the flat panels. Maybe I'll just go with a
19" CRT for the time being, save some money, and wait till later to invest
in a nice Apple monitor... If any more suggestions on a CRT, send them my way. My local computer guy has a Compaq refurb CRT 19" for $175...not sure if that's too high of price or not, but maybe I'll go with something like that..

15" cinema display is 300 on ebay
and ive read rumors..just rumors that apple might release updated versions of the monitors..so that might result in lower prices for the current line up

Try some of the hot deals forums around (like anandtech.com's and arstechnica.com's). The people there will argue the specs to death for you so you get an idea of the quality of the LCD.
