DVD looks very raw
 

I have burned some episodes of my show to DVD. On my 50" Samsung Plasma much of my video looks very raw and not like tv. I'm not really loking for a true film look, but more of a tv look. What am I missing? Is it just the dvd quality versus what the tv signal quality? When I submit my episodes they will be on Beta Sp and broadcasted in SD. My footage is shot with Gl2's, XL1S and Sony 390L. Its almost like my video is too high of quality if that possible! haha

You need to give us more information. It probably has to do with your compression settings.

1) What software did you use to compress your video into MPEG-2 (DVD codec)?
2) What format video did you shoot (size and interlaced or progressive)
3) What is the length of your video?

There are lots of things that can effect the quality of your DVD video. I'm no expert, but I can share what I've learned so far. (using Final Cut Studio 2)

As Mitchell said, it likely has to do with your compression settings, and the answers to his questions will certainly help. Other possible issues are how your DVD player is connected to your 50" plasma (composite? s-video? component? HDMI?). Also, it is DV material on a 50" plasma screen. Nothing exposes the shortcomings of DV like a big screen TV. ;-)

Watched the DVD on a smaller SD tv and everything looked much better. I compressed using compressor set to 90 minute best quality all standard settings. The footage is very sharp, high res etc.... just looks to much like video in some parts.

I had a feeling that would be the case.

Yeah, well... you did shoot DV, what do you expect it to look like? ;-)
