OMG I am soooo glad to hear another editor say this.
That's the God's honest truth. If you've invested big dollars in a nice edit platform, regardless of whether or not it is Mac or PC, for God's sake why on earth would you sully the hard drives surfing the net? The internet is like the locker room in your old high school, snot and athlete's foot fungus on the floor, piles of smelly towels in the corner and God knows what else lying around.
If you love your edit box, treat it like you'd treat a girl you really love, and stay off the internet LOL.

Use your old boat anchor machines for that stuff.

I use my Mac Pro for editing and website creation. I need to be able to download stuff from the internet to use in video projects too. So going on the net with an edit machine isn't an option.

There's no sullying of the hard drives. I have many, and they have duplicate back ups. Besides, most software installations require internet activation directly from the app.

I have FCP7 and Vegas 8 running in BootCamp with Windows7. The advice above is good. The one thing I like about FCP is Motion, because of this program I prefer FCP.
The advantage to having both systems is the ability to burn BD-R. Sony DVDA creates beautiful menus and BD. I installed a BD burner in the Mac Pro.
