Mpeg 2

I have the new JVC HM 700 camera. It imports into final cut no problem and I can edit with it etc. When I add a music track I have to render it. No big deal that has always happened to me. But now that I am using my footage from the HM 700 it says it has to render Mpeg 2 video and it takes forever!!! My music tracks are MP3's. I don't know if that has anything to do with that. Any suggestions. It looks like it is also doing this if I add an effect to the video.

mp3 is not a friendly format to FC.

Import mp3 to AIFF (iTunes make it) & the problems will go off.

Cheers.

Calvin,

The native audio format for professional video editing is 48khz AIFF; MP3 is not a professional audio format and will require rendering.

A properly setup AIFF will never have to be rendered - until you apply effects, if any. Your camera's audio, by the way, is by default 48khz AIFF on import which is why it's audio doesn't require rendering.

Thanks a lot guys. I have been shooting for 7 years but I am just getting into editing so I have a big learning curve.

To convert mp3s to AIFFs in iTunes go to iTunes Preferences, General and select the import settings button. Then set AIFF, 48Khz, 16-bit, Stereo

Select the songs you want to convert and then go to the Advanced menu and select "Create AIFF version."

The selected mp3s will be duplicated into AIFFs (so there will be two copies of these songs in your music library.) Drag the AIFF converted songs from the itunes library to a folder on your media drive and then into FCP. You can then delete the duplicates that are in your itunes library.
