FC Express or FCP

Hi,
I am ready to take the next step in non linear vids.

I really had a good time with iMovie and am ready for FC.

However the price difference is large.

My main concern (though elementary) is:

With FC Express, can I create my movie and output an image to be burned to DVD to be played on setup player or duplication?

Or do i need another utility or FC Pro to do that?

It would be nice to get away with FC Express and save the dough...ya know?

THanks in advance.

FCE is an excellent program, especially with the recent release of FCE HD. It's the same price as it always has been, $299, but now is bundled with Live Type and Sound Track.

FCP HD will handle more types of video and has a vector scope and more robust keyframing tools. I use both, FCE at home and FCP HD at work.

thanks,

but can I output a DVD video image with Express to be burned in Toast?

Certainly. It's done the same in both, you export your project as a self contained movie. In FCPHD you go to File>Export>QuickTime and choose self contained and in FCE you go to File>Export>Final Cut Movie and choose self contained. Both give you the same result, a QuckTime movie at 720x480 using the DV/DVC PRO codec.

These files can then be used in iDVD, Toast, DVD Studio Pro, etc to make a DVD. The DVD authoring process then converts them into MPEG 2s for use as a DVD.
