Missing audio when I export to quicktime
 

I just finished helping my friend edit his first short in film school on Final Cut 4. When we export the movie to a quicktime file it leaves out sections of audio. I can't understand it.

Some Things to Check

A couple of things to check:

First, is all your audio rendered? Some audio effects (like video ones) require rendering. A quick "Render All" should take care of that.

Second, is all your audio in A1 or A2? I haven't tried to be certain, but I think if you have audio in other tracks QuickTime may not pick them up. Is there a pattern to when the audio drops out? For example, when you cut to a clip whose audio is on A3/A4?

Is all the audio in the same format? I.e. all captured form the same tapes at the same time, or are these from different sources? Shouldn't be a factor but you never know!

Finally, when you export be sure that you haven't selected "Video Only" as your export option.

Let me know if these don't help and I'll do some testing myself!

Thanks alot, I checked my timeline and my missing audio was on A18 and A19. Nothing else was on those tracks so I'm pretty certain that's the problem. I haven't tried exporting it again but I'm pretty sure that should solve it. Thanks.

Your audio should have exported no matter what tracks it was on. Doug's suggestions of making sure that "Video Only" was not selected and rendering audio before export seem a better possibilty.

I have experinced this occasionally. I found it necessary to remove all the audio render files with the Render manager and rerender all the audio.

and after you render audio also do the Render audio Mixdown

Thanks, here's yet another strange problem that happened after I got the audio to work. After I mixed the audio down it seemed to solve the problem until I got to the end, I have a P.S.A. with a yeti cop that we had to voice over and slow down to fit the audio with the voice. When I export to quicktime the video plays really choppy and when it is finally gets through the credits aren't there at all.
