Export From FCP for Use in Windows NLE

Hi All.

We work with a client who is strictly windows based and from time to time we need to provide him with DV footage he can import into his system. I think he uses Premier.

Any way, in the past we have just exported a self contained FCP movie for him making sure we put the .mov extenion on it for windows. He says he either can't use these or has trouble with them.

My understanding is that .mov and .avi are the wrappers for the compressed video and the codec is the package being wrapped. If I understand this correctly, then I should be able to export an .avi for for windows as long as I make sure I'm using the proper DV/DVCPRO codec setting, 720x480-29.97fps-48khz. Is this correct?

Other than printing to tape and giving him the tape, what should we be doing to provide him with hassle free footage?

TIA, Dave

Was that self containted FCP movie in DV-MOV format?

He should be able to read it, but that will depend on the Operating
System version he is running *AND* the version of Premiere.

He should not have any problems with DV-AVI indeed, but as
always, testing is key here.

There is also (PC and I assume for the Mac) software out that
can convert between the various DV "formats" (or containers)
