PCI-X Important?

We're buying a new G5 and debating between the entry level and the mid-level...Most everything except for the slight speed bump and slight frontside bus increase seems to be upgradeable to be equal, with the only notable exception being the pci-x slots. How important are those going to be in the future? Or now? Are most HD cards PCI-x? Is it a technology soon to be outmoded, or not fully adopted?

Thanks,

Arne

I don't know that there are a lot of PCI-X cards available yet. However there's a review of the top of the line decklink HD card in the current issue of DV magazine. It says that it will only provide full HD capability when used in a PCI-X slot.

Another option (if you're buying right away) would be to try and find the previous 2 ghz dual model. MacMall was selling these at a big price drop, I think about $1,900? Unlike the new dual 2ghz, the old model has the PCI-X slots and also 8 RAM slots instead of 4 like the new one.
