jpeg vs. gif vs. png?
 

hey forum friends,

im new to final cut pro. im doing a promo project and for the logo my friend is sending me a transparent background image of the logo, shes asking whether she should send it as a jpeg, gif, or png file?

whats the best image file to use in FCP? and what size minimum should the logo be?

any advice would be helpful! thanks!

I prefer .png. And FCP works well with it.

PNG's have less overhead than JPEG's interestingly enough and they have the added benefit of being able to use layered files and alphas, so as your needs/skills increase you can get more creative with your stills in PNG than JPEG or TIFF. Stay away from GIF files at all costs; it's an old standard that will probably be obsolete and not supported in the near future for everything except HTML.

Transparent backgrounds don't work on JPEGs, BTW. I use TIFFS just because I'm a savage. PNG, TIFF, PICT and PSDs all support Transparency.
