SOS!! Installing Final Cut Studio 3

Hey, so my friend gave me a mini disk drive with FCS3 on it, and I transferred it to my external drive. I updated my Mac from Tiger to Snow Leopard and uninstalled my old version of FCP 5. I'm trying to install the FCS3 files my friend gave me, but it's not working. It gets to the installation part, then about 80% of teh way into the installation it stops and says the installation failed. I tried converting the FCS3 installation file from a *.cdr to a *.dmg file, but that didn't work either.

Does anybody know what I can do to install FCS3? Thanks!

Illegal installation. You need to purchase and use the original disks that Apple sells not a drive with a pirated copy. Please don't ask for any more help regarding this.
