Shouldn't hurt the old projects unless you open them. You will want to be careful of your settings if you hook up the old scratch drive along with the newer one and then open the old project. Final cut doesn't seem to remember where a project is stored unless it can't find the disk with media and asks to relink. It will happily leave projects spread over different scratch disks and locations. Not so happy for the user juggling different projects on the same system.
