how to export HDV from FCP to IDVD for best quality results?

I finished a project HDV 1080 25p in FCP set same
Need to burn a DVD best Q
I usually use compressor and DVD SP to burn a DVD.
But in this case, as I donīt have templates and need a menu, I'm going to burn ti in IDVD.
When I export as Quicktime Movie with current settings the result is very poor so my question is
Shall I use QT conversion and then prores 422 HD for best results?
Is there any other way can you recomend me??
also I observe low quality in the titles that were created livetype
thanks in advance.

Exporting to regular ProRes should do, ProRes HQ is overkill. Avoid editing in an HDV timeline if you are going to make titles or transitions beyond simple fade-in and outs. Set your HDV timeline to render effects and filters in ProRes. IF you have FCP 7 you can use the "Share" option to make a DVD with a simple menu.

Thanks William,

So you're saying that is a better workflow for HDV to always set the sequence to prores (no HD prores), render to prores and export QT movie prores, as soon as I have a few effects?

Coulple of questions:
I unchecked interlaced, field dominance none, in the sequence settings. Is that right?

Sould I export in current settings or prores? Isn't the same? I unchecked movie self contained to export.

My final question is if prores is going to get better my quality in IDVD?

I have a similar question, I believe.
I have finished editing an outdoor documentary shot on HDV. I'm now trying to burn in iDVD but am rather appalled at the loss of fine detail (in the distant trees, in distant lakes that have waves). I see compression artifacts that are almost strobe-like--about every 1/2 second the "grain" changes to the next blurry pattern as it struggles to deal with the fine detail.
I have iDVD set to "professional" level compression.
The program is 3 hours long and I'm putting 90 min. on each layer of a dual-layer disc.
Any suggestions or is this as good as it gets?

Exactly, as to burn a DVD in IDVD in high quality from original HDV footage edit in FCP, seems not to be so easy, I would be grateful if somebody could suggest a definite workflow to follow !
Thanks so much!!!

most ppl use:
FCP > Compressor > DVDSP

I found even using this process it takes a lot of time to downconvert HD to SD without it looking bad.

You could try using MPEGstream clip to down convert if that's what I'm understanding what you are trying to do. Then import it into iDVD.

IMO . . . Don't overthink it.
Export reference mov. (same as timeline)
Drop into iDVD and set to professional quality and let it churn it out.
If the sequence is long . . . it could take a while with your specs.

DVDSP should have templates and menu's; more than iDVD. Instead of reworking your whole process, maybe find and use the templates and menu's in DVDSP. If they're not in: DVDSP: Palette Window > Templates > Apple, then check DVDSP > Preferences > Destinations > Palette Elements. Maybe they've been moved and DVDSP can't locate them. They're always on the install DVD's if you have them handy.

Thanks Paul, I may not have those templates... I'll search about though! Is really a complication having to use IDVD
