AirPort Express Video for HDV on your TV
 

I know they are just rumors, but it would be nice to see something akin to an AirPort Express for video, especially if it supported HD. That way I could more easily watch my edited HDV on my HDTV (no waiting around for HD-DVD or Blu-ray). The AirPort Express AV would have to have one of those new hardware SOS based H.264 decoders or this won't work in my opinion.

This is what I would like to see for an AirPort Express HD:

- HDMI out (converter cable can be bought for DVI, componenet, and S-Video)
- Optical Audio out (in the current AirPort Express)
- Hardware decoder chip for H.264 upto HD resolutions and MPEG-2 upto 25Mbs i.e. HDV (the new Sigma chip maybe)
- an available remote to control computer playback via the AirPort Express
- Enough on-board memory for effection caching

Yes that would be a nice announcement. However, if your tv accepts firewire I/O, you can already play back your footage. Just download the FW developers toolkit from Apple. In that package, you'll find an application called Virtual DVHS which will let you record and playback hi-def content between your tv and your Apple's harddrive. I'm thinking of adding a Mac Mini just for that application.

But a Mac Mini can't play back HD H.264 content. Perhaps it can play 25Mbs MPEG-2??? Does anyone with know if a Mac Mini is capable of playing an HDV TS from one of the HDV Sony cameras?
