I think the G5 iMac will be a better platform for you. However, there are other options if cost is a big issue. You can get an eMac which will probably outperform the Mini due to a faster hard drive. It has a nice flat CRT screen built into it. Naturally it's bigger and heavier than the mini though.

You could get a 15" or 17" VGA CRT monitor for really cheap (maybe $50) at any electronics store and use it with the mini. Or get an inexpensive LCD screen (perhaps $100) at an electronics store or via mail order.

My vote would be for the iMac however :-)

If any folks have been following this spine-tingling thread (a Mini Series of sorts), I'd like to share some occupational health benefits of LCD monitors. Flat CRT screens have the brightness pumped up and quickly gave me terrible eyestrain. As soon as I replaced my Sony flat screen CRT TV with my Sharp Aquos LCD TV last year, my eyestrain completely disappeared.

My vote is also for an iMac. I want to do some short experimental videos and I think I'll be able to satisfactorily push the creative envelope on an iMac.

Boyd and Duane, thank you, thank you for your generous help!!!

Dorothy
