Can't add transition between rendered clips

I rendered some clips that were shot in DVCPRO HD 720p24 instead of DVCPRO HD 720p24n.

I still can't edit any properties of a fade transition and the length of the transition defaults to 1 frame rather than 1 sec. Even if I render the transition it still isn't editable.

What am I missing?

Make sure you have handles around the edit points that you are adding a transition to, as in extra frames that are not being used in the timeline at the beginning and end of the two clips.

Thank you. That was it. I should have known that.

Don't feel bad, I went crazy for awhile with this issue. I had worked with other programs before, and they didn't require the infamous 'handles', so I just kept hitting my head against the wall, until finally I posted on a forum and got help.

I actually think this is a shortcoming of FCP. Why not just let us transition over the frames at the very beginning or end? It could be done, but no, we have to take the time to go into a clip and tell the program that the first x number of frames are being set aside.

It doesn't really have to be this way, which is why you didn't automatically get it.
