Exporting Still Images from HDV in FCP

When I export a still image (PCT, JPG, whatever) from FCP to the Desktop, and open it, it's stretched vertically. Does anyone know how to avoid this? Do I need to just go into PS and resize it?

Thanks,

Austin

HDV 1080i is 1440x1080 pixels stretched to 1920x1080. Photoshop always displays images in a 1:1 pixel aspect-ratio. To change that, go to the Image menu and select the apropriate pixel aspect ratio (it's 1.33 - choose HDV Anamorphic if you're using PS 9).

Specifically, you need to decide what size you want it to be. Resizing to 1920x1080 will give you the full vertical resolution but may look a little soft since you're stretching it horizonally. 1440x810 would give you the full horizontal resolution while downsampling vertically. 960x540 would downsample things in both dimensions, and have the effect of deinterlacing since you'd be averaging the scan lines. Or 1280x720 might be a good compromise between these options.

But the main thing is, the width divided by the height should equal 1.778.
