Pixel aspect with Photoshop
 

Hi Crew,

Im wondering if ive been making all of my graphics wrong for DV!!
Ive been making them at 768x576 pixels from my analog days.
Ive just scene this pixel aspect thing in photosop CS and now im confused!

Should i make my graphics in 768x576 for 4:3 DV and 1024x576 for 16:9 DV

will this work for the PAL 1.07(?) aspect?

WHats confusing me more is if i go and create images with this "PAL DV non square pixel" photoshop preset. Will my images be the wrong aspect, as i am copying them from another photoshop document to a PAL DV document with different pixel aspects.

Im so confused!

theres a preset in photoshop you can use, which changes the aspect ratio when your making the file and then saved as square pixels. my guess that is aslong as you use this preset, it should come out exactly the same as it looked in photoshop (as the aspect ratio will be changed again).

So it saves it as square pixels anyway?

My quesiton is will 768x576 be the correcct aspect for DVPAL?

yeah basically that preset is just for viewing the image properly when you design so that way it will come out right in the end. Not sure on the pal settings

768x576 and 1024x576 are the correct square pixel dimensions for PAL 4:3 and 16:9 images.

To make them non-square you simply need to resize the 720px horizontal (without changing the vertical resolution). Or, depending on your editing application you can usually resize on import by specifiying it is a square-pixel source.
