quick time files on media player
 

I have a client that wants a presentation burned onto cd. I use mac equipment and software, quicktime but he wants the program to be viewable on media player. How do I go about this?

Use Cleaner and encode it as either WMP or MPEG-1. Cleaner EZ comes with FCP and Cleaner 6 is available for sale.

Sorenson's Squeeze 3 Suite is aother alternative, and a less expensive one at that.

Unfortunately Sorenson Squeeze will not output Windows Media Files or MPEG-1 but it does a fantastic job with QuickTime Sorenson Video as long as you use Sorenson Pro and 2-pass VBR. Fortunately Cleaner 6 can do all that and much more, which is why it cost's so much.

Yes, the Squeeze Suite WILL create Windows Media files, and does it beautifully, too, I might add. It will output the following file types:

* AIF/AIFF
* ASF
* AVI
* DV
* MOV
* MP4
* WMV
* WMA
* WAV

I guess I was assuming he would be encoding it on the Mac since he said he was using Mac equipment. The Windows version will in fact encode Windows Media, QuickTime and RealMedia as well as MPEG-4 and Flash but the Mac version only does QuickTime, MPEG-4 and Flash as per the Sorenson website and the install I have on my computer.
With the current price difference being only $150 I don't know why Cleaner 6 wouldn't be the clear advantage other than the learning curve IF you want to use the advanced features. The nice thing about Squeeze is the SWF and FLA output if you use those and it is very simple to use.

Good point, I failed to take that into consideration. I thought all real editors worked on a PC.

It does bring up a good point though, if you are producing video for both platforms you should have both for testing if nothing else because video looks very different on the Mac and the PC. I have and use both platforms for just that very reason. Make sure if your client is going to be watching this video on a PC, that you encode it with that in mind which means at the very least adjusting the gamma. Unfortunately it isn't always just point and click easy when it comes to encoding (if you want the best results).

You could win-win if you bought a PC and Sorenson Squeeze for PC but then that is definately more money.

Another good point, Rhett. Since I couldn't afford both, I had to make a choice. I went with PC because so many of my earlier experiences/apps were with PC. So I decided to stick with what was known and comfortable.

It is comforting to know that I can server both clients--PC and Mac in the encoding/compression arena.

I was searching for answers, hope the thread isn't too old:

Im working on a G4 power book, extra hard drives for video production. Plan on a G5 and FCP by spring but... as much as I like the QT format, I need to convert some files to .WMV for clients and web sites.

Before getting either Cleaner or another major program to purchase. Any thoughts on a nice program to convert the present iMovie files to windows readable?

Popwire Technology makes a $30 plugin for exporting .WMV files out of any QT driven app. Does a great job.
