esata

Hi

I have a 2003 G5 and want to use external SATA 2 drives? Anyone know:

(a) Is it ok to use the raid function is OSX or will this be detrimental to FCP in temrs of processing power. If so anyone know of esata hardware raid cards?

(b) Any recommends for esata cards and enclosures? Don't want to spend a fortune but do want something capable and relaible.

Thanks

Trevor

as to
a) - This is fine.
I did a DIY before the external cards came with a RocketRaid 1820A (8 ports) and a standard PC cabinet that I filled up with disks and fans. Works great (as long as it stands in another room)

Had to drill holes on the back of my G5, though to get the cables out...

Try http://www.sonnettech.com/product/pci_adptrs.html (scroll down to bottom) for cards,

and http://www.sonnettech.com/product/storage.html for enclosures.

I use those eSATA cards and Fusion enclosures - all work well. I'm told they work fine with OSX's RAIDing, although not tried that yet.
