External Waveform Monitor

Alright folks, I'm on a mission to become more than a tourist around here, so here goes.

I'm sorta just getting into final cut color correction. I was curious about using an external waveform monitor. Thay are quite pricey (for HDSDI), but still fall within my budget. The main question is is there a difference between an LCD monitor and a CRT monitor. It's just a measurment tool right? Are CRTs more accurate, as they are with preview (for now)? Just point me in the right direction friends. Thanks a ton.

like everything, you get what you pay for ... a good quality LCD waveform monitor will be more than adequate

Thanks Andy. But anywhere to look into more info on LCD vs. CRT waveforms? To give you more info, I'm working on pre-digitized BetaSP footage which will eventually be dumped to DigiBeta out of house. The footage will be broadcast, so I want to be safe. As I understand it, the scopes in FCP are based on a digital scale, which makes them perfect for measurment, but they do not take into account 7.5 IRE black. Will either an LCD or CRT external waveform give me more accurate broadcast safe colors?

Thanks a ton folks.
