Using AIC instead of HDV

I have footage of 720p24 from my HD100 and I don't want to use HDV. My last project I converted the HDV to DVCProHD to work in Shake and AE, but I'm wondering if capturing AIC will alleviate 2 compressions before compositing.

I found a work-a-round for capturing using AIC and then using Cinema Tools to convert it to 23.98. Is this the best way for 24?

Also, I tried to fool FCP by changing 29.97 to 23.98 in the settings for capture presets. This didn’t do anything to the footage, but the audio was fine.

Any thoughts?

I think I finally gave myself an answer. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

1. Capture the footage (firewire from tape) as HDV720p24 into FCP.
2. Edit/Color/Audio
3. Shots needed for AE/Shake->This is where it seems fuzzy.

4. Export (shots needing work) as AIC 720p30.
5. Cinema Tools/ batch convert to 23.98

Should I just export uncompressed out of FCP into Shake/AE and then back out uncompressed into FCP again? I am thinking there will be another compression visible if AIC is dropped into HDV720p24 timeline. If I just export the shots needed as uncompressed, there will only be one compression on re-inserting into the edit.
