Best program to Recode DVD to Flash or MPEG-2?
 

I have about 20 short films that are burned on a DVD video. Unfortuintly this is the only copy left of these films. The original tapes or DV files or MPEG-2 files no longer exist. So I need to know What is the best program to use to do this?


1) Is there a way I can extract 20 individual short films from a DVD to be able to make a New DVD in Encore CS3 without loosing quality? If the original videos were MPEG-2 files in Encore program before they went on the DVD then is there a way to get back those MPEG-2 files off the DVD so i can make new DVDs with them?

2) I want to take the DVD videos and "recode" it (convert them) to Flash or Quicktime or some other online medium to put these videos on the internet. And i want to do this in best possible quality.

Magic DVD Ripper seems to work best at pulling the original MPEG2 video off disk and to your hard drive.

Unless we're talking scrambled content, which is probably not the case, your best software is MPEG Streamclip. It will extract the clean mpeg data off the DVD, and you can cut the individual files with accuracy at keyframe point - then reauthor them into new DVDs. Absolutely no loss as there is no decompression/recompression done.

MPEG Streamclip will also let you decompress the files to some intermediary format of your choice; take that file and encode it to flash/QT/whatever you like - if you want QT, you can do it right there in Streamclip without an intermediary: it will resize and compress it for you.
