FS 1 DRIVE PROBLEM (Lacie 40gb)

I have (and still) problems with the drives I was using "freezing up" or not being recognized for some reason. I have tryed quite a few different kinds, including Lacie, weibtech, and firelite, all have had problems. It is an annoying issue. I have just started using my FS - 3 Drives, they seem to work great. That way I don't lose anything. I really like these products, it is going to make my life easier. I hope to find a drive that works with my FS 1. Can anyone recommend a drive that works with the FS 1 everytime? I want to try and use my FS 3 drives only with my FS 3 units. We use the matrox avi file. Thanks for your help..

I've been down a similar road. I had a Cooldrive model that would sometimes refuse to be recognized, or in some cases, would create the files with no data in them. Most of those problems went away when I switched to a 60GB LaCie pocket drive. Sometimes I have to restart the FS-1 a few times to get it to realize that there is a drive connected, but once it accepts it, it works well. I also format the drive only from the FS-1 to try to insure maximum compatibility. Matt McEwen from Focus has been quite helpful on these problems. I have an early FS-1 (upgraded PROMS), so it's probably a little grumpy.....

Good luck.....

Thanks Vic!! I have had luck with LACIE drives. I bought new ones this year and they don't work. I think that LACIE must have changed the firmware. Who Knows? I hope that Matt will be able to give me an updated list of what he recommends. I really dislike using my fs-3 drives for the fs-1.

It's possible you might have a Rev problem with your LaCie drives....see this string for more info. Matt can also probably help you with this.

Thanks Vic - sorry about the delay. I have been out of town. I tryed that for the drives I bought last year and it worked great. I recently bought some new drives (Lacie and Weibtech) and both freeze up or the FS1 loses it. It is really annoying. I hope that Matt may be able to help me out.

On a side note, the Weibtech drives were awesome for coping files to. Real robust and has the new Firewire jack on it.

Thanks for your help

Hi Steve,

Which Lacie and Weibe drives did you buy recently? We would like to look into this. Were you able to back rev the Lacie drive?

Thanks,

Matt

Matt,

Thanks for getting back to me on this. I was able to back rev the Lacie Drive that I purchased last year. I do aplogize about my mistake, the wiebe drives and the Firelite drives were the problem drives, both were 40gb. Focus did recommend both of these drives and neither worked. Both drives had the same problems (freezing up, unrecognizable after a little bit of use). You guys ended up sending the FS 3 drives as a replacement. Is there another drive that we could try? I would just like to have a little more protection on the drives for the FS 1.

I forgot to include the model number to the wiebe drives:

60 gb

cgb - 60/7200

Thanks again for your help,

Hi Steve,

I think we may have gotten to the bottom of this. WeibeTech has been shipping drives recently with a new rev of Oxford firmware that was causing trouble with FS-1. They have an up/down rev utility available for download which will fix this issue. Contact focus tech support at support@focusinfo.com or call 408-370-9963 and they can talk you through the procedure.

Hope that helps,

Matt McEwen
