FS users with AVID
I was wondering how many people out there are shooting with a firestore unit and editing with Avid, and if those people are capturing OMFI files to their firestore, or simply quicktime files?
Do those using the firestore see an advantage in capturing OMFI files from a PRO Firestore versus capturing Quicktime files with a regular Firestore? |
Hi Rick,
I would suggest that you post this question again next month, since the FS-4 pro hasn't been released yet. ... Sorry, I don't know if the FS-3 has the OMFI capability. Maybe someone would know something. I posted before thinking. |
Quicktime files would need to be converted to OMFI files. The omfi files are what Avid uses.

The FS-4 pro version, and maybe other Firestore products can capture in native OMFI file format apparently. Making it unnecessary to convert them when using them together with an AVID.

Hi,
Importing QuickTime files into an Avid (which will convert these clips to OMF files on import) can be a very slow process versus using the Media Tools feature on Avid to instantly make FireStore recorded OMF clips available to edit. Another option is to use the FireStore DV Conversion Suite software which will convert QuickTime clips on your computer fairly quickly to OMF files. You can download a demo version at: http://www.focusinfo.com/products/fi.../dvcsuite.html Hope that helps, Matt |
