HDV firestore for HVX

just bought HVX for an 'on the fly' documentary.....ie. P2 cards not only expensive for us but not ideal shooting material. so, waiting for FireStore to bring out the DVCPro version of their DTE for the HVX.

does anyone have any idea when this will be? and does anyone have a good link that gives a price for this? i've yet to track one down.

we want (need?) to start shooting in march, and are toying with the idea of buying FireStore's HDV DTE (which i've been told will work with the HVX but obviously only records HDV with subsequent loss of quality).

anyone know about this? any thoughts?

You can't record HDV from the HVX. What you might be able to do is offload your P2 cards onto the HDV firestore when the cards are full.

have you looked at the cineporter? i think that it's a p2 interface, hardwired into an hdd recorder.

Neither the CinePorter from Spec-Comm nor the FireStore FS-100 from Focus Enhancements are available at this time (Feb. 2006). Both will most likely start shipping at some point after NAB in April.

Since the HVX200 is not an HDV camcorder, the HDV version FireStore is definitely *not* compatible.

thanks chris (and others). might just have to play around in SD for a few weeks....or find a few extra grand for the P2 cards. pass the hat?!

alternatively, we tested the camera this evening recording straight to external drive using FCP. this worked fine ok, though we were in a stable environment with a short firewire connection. anyone done this in more 'rugged' surroundings? or at least on a long cable?....maybe 30ft?
