Matrox APVe Question

Hey all,

I'm looking for a way to output my HD timeline onto an HDTV. I heard the Matrox APVe was a good option if monitoring is all I'm looking for (which it is), but I had one question. I already have dual monitors hooked up to a Geforce 8800 GT which work fine, but I would I have to uninstall my Geforce to use the Matrox card? Could I get by with just the HDTV hooked up to the card and still have my dual monitor setup on my Geforce, or should I just go ahead and get the Matrox RT.X2 (although again, monitoring solution is all I'm really in need of right now).

I'm running on a Dell XPS 720 with Premiere Pro CS3 and Vista (and I'll be using an HVX200A soon and mostly shooting 720p on P2). Sony Bravia 32" 720p LCD is what I'm trying to output to.

Thanks, any info is greatly appreciated!

Hi John............

Should work fine.

The APVe is quite capable of working in "multi graphics card" situations.

You will need a spare PCIe slot on your motherboard and be able to set "Use Video Overlays" on (don't ask me where it is as I haven't been able to find it since I first did it!).

Issues:

Matrox specifically DOES NOT vouch that the APVe DVI out will run an HDMI in screen (DVI in, yes. HDMI in, highly unlikely. Why? Who knows.)

You will, most likely, need to connect using Component.

There was an issue with the APVe and MSI Diamond series motherboards/ BIOS's. There was a BIOS patch available to get around this, tho' this far down the track it's probably not relevant.

Other than the above, the card works fine and the accompanying Matrox Powerdesk software is pretty simple to navigate.

Hope it goes well.

Oh, BTW, John, can you click on the "Contact US" button down at the bottom of the page and get your location details updated, it's kind of spooky typeing to a ghost.

Thanks, John.......

Keep us updated as to how it works out.

It ain't over "Till The Fat Lady Sings" as "they say" (does anyone know where that darn saying comes from?).

Regards,

video overlay settings are located in powerdesk setup....

I also have Matrox Parhelia APVe, everything works perfectly, except that I can't use some great magic bullet programs...
