JumpStart Guide to HDV Acquisition @ Production Update

First, apologies to Chris and Heath if this is inappropriate, but since I have sold many copies to this list, I thought I should post a public update. Please Chris, I would appreciate it if this could remain.

Hello everyone,

I wanted to take a moment and tell you some good news on the JumpStart DVD on HDV Acquisition and production featuring the JVC GR-HD1 and JY-HD10U.

As you know, we are late on shipping and I feel really badly about that. I wanted it out on the date promised, but the more time I put into the DVD, the better I like it.

The DVD is now 2 DVD's. One instructional DVD and the goodies packed DVDROM. The instructional DVD is looking like it will be 60 minutes in length and I can confirm we will be showing you how the cameras compare to each other, but also to the Sony HDW series of cameras aka the Cinealta camera. You will see on the DVD and the DVDROM just how amazing the JVC Cameras are and that they do compare to the big boys on the block quite favorably.

I can also confirm, we will have a $100.00 off coupon in the DVD for the purchase of Aspect HD from CineForm. You will also have a fully functioning copy of the Apect HD plugin for Adobe Premiere, which is also included on the DVDROM. Of course, you will also receive 3 Digital Juice JumpBacks, plugins for the Mac to capture and edit in Final Cut (output for DVD only), and a player for native MPEG2TS files.

It's a 2 DVD set now instead of just one.

Yesterday, I got an opportunity to meet with the team from JVC Canada and JVC Japan. They got to see a preview of the DVD and were really happy with it. They told me it was very informative, and had a few suggestions for things they thought should be included.

With this in mind, I am delaying the shipment until December 1, 2003. This date is firm as I have promised some copies to JVC for that date as well. This will give me a chance to make a few changes, and add some additional content.

Now, I know this is almost 2 months after some of you have ordered the package, and I want to provide you with 2 options.

1. You can cancel your order by return email and I will refund your payment - no questions asked.
2. Stay with me for another 2 weeks and I'll ship it to you by the fastest service the US Post office provides. You should see it that same week.

I hope you will all stay with me. I promise you won't be disappointed. There is a ton of information, samples and how to's and I think the Cinealta comparison to the JVC Cams will make your day.

In the mean time, help me out with something. Please visit http://digitaljuice.com and take a look at the sample JumpBacks in the HD product line. Tell me which ones you want on the DVDROM. The top 3 choices will be included!

Thanks again for your order and I hope you will allow me the extra time to make this the best product I can make it!

Cheers

Since shipping has been delayed a month until Dec. 1st, does that mean the $49.95 S&H-included price is extended another month as well? Seems only fair...

Darren Kelly November 15th, 2003 03:57 PM

Would you buy it if it was?

DBK

David Kelvin November 15th, 2003 04:27 PM

I would.

David Newman November 15th, 2003 05:33 PM

Darren,

I gather your DVD includes the demo version of Premiere 6.0 not 6.5. Aspect HD demo is not designed to run on 6.0. Through a few tricks it can be made to work but with a reduced feature set. How are you handling/documenting this?

Bob England November 15th, 2003 06:09 PM

Yes I would.
To be honest, whether you extend the offer or not, I'll buy it sooner or later.

Darren Kelly November 15th, 2003 07:07 PM

Email me privately and I'll extend the deal to you.

darren@hdvtraining.com

Offer ends on Monday.

Hey Darren, can you give us better driving directions to the "samples" on the www.digitaljuice.com site? I can't find any samples anywhere - the whole site has samples you can view via Quicktime. Is that what you mean? Pick a clip and email it to you? If so, I highly doubt we'll pick the same clips! There are 100's on there!

Let us know because it doesn't look like there is a sample area from what I can see.

I'd like to keep my order - thanks for communicating honestly and straightforwardly about what's happening. I think we all appreciate your detailed explanation.

Thanks,
Chris

The samples are under:

http://www.digitaljuice.com/jumpbacks_hidef/hidef_info.asp
you need to have Quicktime5 or 6 installed. I plays nice on 6.3

For example, I liked

David Kelvin November 16th, 2003 12:49 PM

#13 is nice.

Darren Kelly November 16th, 2003 01:24 PM

The link is:

http://www.digitaljuice.com/jumpbacks_hidef/hidef_info.asp

then you look at each volume and pick the ones you like the best.

Send me email that says (example)

DVD 1 - JumpBack 3.

that sort of thing.

I think it will be interesting if everyone picks the one they like, and we'll see if we're all cut f4rom the same cloth as it were.

Interesting choices Chris

I knew someone would choose the American Flag, but you fooled me with the Disco ball.

DBK

Christopher C. Murphy November 16th, 2003 09:31 PM

I'm creating a television show called, "The Jukebox". It'll work in there for something...no, I'm not into disco!

Although, I do like to shake my butt on occasion with the ladies!

Chris

Bob England December 8th, 2003 01:38 AM

So, has it shipped yet?

Darren Kelly December 8th, 2003 10:31 AM

I am pleased to announce that it is shipping this very afternoon. We're just putting it in the packages now, so you will see it this week in your mailboxes.

Thanks for your patience, we're 60 minutes long and now contain a discount for MediaStudio pro's new plug in for thier software that allows you to edit in native MPEG2ts.

Cheers

Yes, Darren, what's the status? Also, are there items on the disc for Apple users?

Darren's HDVtraining site is gone - I think he went out of business? He's been MIA for quite a while, so does anyone know what happened to him??

Murph

Darren Kelly September 12th, 2004 09:49 AM

Why would you think that?

Chris,

Before spreading rumors.....how about emailing me for the details.

No I am not out of business, I am very much alive and well.

HDVTraining has become Jumpstart Guides, and a slew of new products are being released this fall, including a new guide to the XL2, the FX1 and some other cameras.

The Jumpstartguides.com web site is being built right now, and will relaunch in conjunction with the launch of our newest guide on Friday.

We still own hdvtraining - and our products are available at B&H and through a new distributor to be announced later this week.

Cheers

I triee googleing for master-works and only came up w/ a CD duplication house.

I have yet to update the web site, but yes we exist.

My company is called masterworks (http://www.masterworks.bc.ca) and our products are called the jumpstart guides.

We have 2 out there right now, the Jumpstart Guide to the HD1 and HD10U and the Jumpstart Guide to the the Nikon D70, which was released on Friday.

Their are more coming.

If I can help, please email me at dkelly@masterworks.bc.ca

Thanks

Darren,

why not link them over to the B&H site with the DVD for sale?

Cause I didn't want to offend anyone here by making it too commercial. I'm not one of Chris's official sponsors, and I got into trouble with him once for doing that.

DBK

Heath McKnight September 27th, 2004 12:21 PM

Hmmm, really? But B&H are official sponsors...
