New JVC HD7000 (2/3" CMOS)
 

Digital Producer magazine just put up a new article by Charlie White on JVC ProHD, including the new GY-HD7000, a 2/3" CMOS camcorder with 1920 x 1080 native resolution, that shoots in 720p and 1080i. There's also now detailed pictures of the GY-HD100U. The article includes a lengthy interview with Dave Walton, National Marketing Communications Manager of JVC Professional Products.

The 7000 is a year off (perhaps NAB 2006)--the vaporware version was at NAB 2004. This was told to us by JVC reps.

Yes, I admit this thing looks pretty sweet. But, I've got my head tilted and my eyes peeled at JVC!

24p, hard disk recording, interchangeable lenses and FULL manual control.....I'm definately listening. The audio isn't uncompressed though...that's a true bummer. But, I know...I know....the HDV spec.

I'm loyal to the best company producing the best camera. I'll sell my Z1U and buy a new camera if it blows me away. I really, really, really want to see Canon and Panny's cams!!!!! I'm getting the "HDV 24p" willies on the back of my neck.

Oh no, one of the things about ProHD is that it adds an uncompressed audio mode I think!

Bad news: still at least a year off.

Heath, I'm thinking the HD7000 is different than the vaporware one that's been floating around for well over a year.

If I remember correctly, the vaporware HD cam was strictly a studio cam with no recording capability, and it wasn't going to be HDV at all.

The HD7000 is a shoulder-mount cam with a tape mechanism, and it is going to be "Pro-HD" (HDV with enhancements).

Just trying to make sure we aren't getting confused with all the announcements.

Guess we'll see at NAB.

I'll be perfectly happy with the HD100 anyway, assuming they can deliver on the implementation.

Nope, the 7000 was the vaporware at last year's NAB--field cam, 2/3 inc CMOS chips, 24p. They're having trouble with the chips.

What's with you guys? We should all be happy that there is...

1) competition among prosumer removable lens camera system,
2) finally an HD proscan system for less than US$10k,
3) linear audio for HDV with the ProHD tape format,
4) a large sensor HDV system coming along.

Oh, ok..I thought you were trying to make me feel dumb. I can do that on my own quite well. lol

I know, I'm blowing smoke like everyone else. No one has actually seen it...so, I'm just saying if it "kicks" my butt completely I'd buy it. That is true...if I see the footage and I'm holding the camera shooting a test for myself and it completely blows me away I'll get it...and sell my Z1U.

Something tells me it won't blow me away though...the lense maybe. But, the footage can't be expodentially better than the Z1U. If it is...they deserve lots of sales!

I think 7000 will be out this year, cause I had promise to have test test drive of that camera "soon", since my company wants to buy between 30 and 50 units.

I'm hearing from a lot of people that it won't be until 2006, but who knows? Maybe they'll get it done. All I know is the CMOS chips sent them back to the drawing board. So the HD-100 is on the way.

three HD cameras in mind
 

Sometimes 3 cameras get confused.

GY-HD100 at NAB2005 ship June or so 1/3 3-CCD Small size

7000 is the larger 2/3 3-CMOS with larger and miniDV cassette we still say a year or less away.

KY-F870 box camera (no tape) was shown at NAB2004 but its 2/3 3-CMOS frontend isn't ready.
