How many pixels is comparable to that? How many pixels are they working with on effects shots? How long before digital closes that gap? we HD people deal with 1920 x 1080, so what's 35mm film like?

According the "Computer Graphic and Digital Imaging" article in the ASC manual (8th edition, page 364) a 4K scan of 35mm Academy-aperture color neg is 4096 x 3072, requiring about 52Mb of storage at 12-bits. 65mm 5-perf is 6000 x 2500.
