Shine, as in you can shoot both modes and compare for yourself. Shine, as in the cam is a cheap alternative to SD 4:2:2, and there is no upsampling/downsampling taking place. The several selectable recording modes and the variable framerates are where this cam simply kicks butt, IMO.

That'd be an interesting test, HVX mini DV versus its DV50 mode. I wonder if there's a discernible difference...

Shooting and mastering in HD then downconverting to SD as the last step provides a much cleaner picture than an all-SD workflow. Shoot your footage for the center 4:3 region of the 16:9 picture and crop the footage as your first step in editing. Your final resolution will either be 960x720 or 1440x1080.
