HDV to Beta SX?
 

hi,

i was wondering if there is anyone out there who has gone HDV to Betasx format. Is it easy as 1,2,3? or are there some road blocks i should know about before i try? i plan on mastering footage on the Sony Z1 and then down converting the edited video within premiere pro for broadcast to Betasx or mayb even sp depending on the stations requirements.

Betasx has ilink? or no?

do i need a blackmagic deck link or something of that sort.

Hi Joel,
Should be easy enough, with the right tools.
We have DNW 75's and they do not come standard with firewire (i-link). I'm sure you could get an option card for it, but I would strongly suggest using the SDI inputs. Option #1 downconverting from your NLE to SDI into the SX deck. You will need a card with SDI out for this (Like AJA or Blackmagic). Or #2, if you are dubbing to the camera use the in camera downconvert and pass through a DV bridge to SDI.
(There is also the option of analog component, s-video, or composite depending on your needs).

Do you have a seperate SX deck? SX has no firewire (ilink) you would need something like a Miranda box that can convert DV to SDI. HDV would need to be downcoverted, either played out of a camera/deck that can do that, like a z1 or in the edit.

i havent purchased the deck yet but my company will soon. ok so then aja or black magic i will master the footage in HDV then in my NLE downconvert to SD uncompressed i would think or are there codecs for betasx? then play out SDI to the deck... sounds easy i hope it looks great...

There are no codecs particularly for SX (like the dv codec).
What I would do is firewire HDV into your NLE. Edit in an HD timeline.
Then downconvert to uncompressed SD. Through your AJA or blackmagic send it out SDI to the SX deck and voila.
