Need simple aerial footage

I am in need of HDV (m2t) footage for a short film. I had lined up a trip in a small cesna (was going to pay the hour rate and everything) and the guy just never got back to me. What I am looking for is fairly simple (aside getting in a plane)

I need a few varied heights of a forest fly over. No houses, building, powerline, anything. Just trees and maybe a river/brook/pond if they happen to be there. The trees need to be green. No signs of fall. The shoot should take no longer than maybe 20 minutes. I only need about a good 30 second clip if that.

I am out of the US until october and can`t try to find any other way to do this. I also live in Rhode Island so it will be fall when I go home. I will pay $50 flat fee as well as credit you for filming that scene in the short film. It is very important (to me at least) to get this shot in there to help separate the look from regular almost $0 budget films in my area. Your help would be immeasurable.

Here is a test video I made months ago, the opening grass fly over is the look I want of the actual flyover of forest.

please excuse the goofy nature of the video, it was just camera tests etc.

As an alternative, it might be adequate and cheaper to visit www.revostock.com and have a look for some stock footage that would suit your needs.

This might work for you.

Also here a little bit cheaper

I have some footage that I shot from a hot air balloon, using my HVR-Z1U
ands it's in HDV, how many minutes do you need. I alos just shot some footage this morning but that's over frozen snow and ice, over a river

Depending on the forest and if there are any signs of civilization i need about 30 seconds. Did you watch the video i posted? It should look similar to the grass at the beginning...the grass was a 'stand in' for the forest shot i want.

Still looking. Seems everyone who shows interest is afraid of earning money haha. I've had 4 people offer help but then not follow through.

Andrew Dickerman January 30th, 2008 08:51 PM

I sent you an email about possibilities.

Nathan Quattrini January 31st, 2008 10:51 AM

Hey thanks! Unfortunately it needs to be green forest, the film was filmed last summer. The hot air balloon way seemed it may be good but he never wrote me back. Good to see another local, not many A1 users around these parts! Do you have a website of your work?

Computer animation a possibility?

Have you considered using computer animation from a program such as Vue (http://www.e-onsoftware.com)?

Check out a forum such as Renderosity's Vue forum (http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forum...forum_id=12368) to see if you can hire someone there to do it.

Industrial Light & Magic uses Vue (http://www.e-onsoftware.com/about/pr...y%2027,%202006)

For the kind of shot you want, it should be pretty easy to set up. You'll be able to specify time of day, cloud formations, tree density, terrain and a lot more. The designer can cut you a small rough draft and then do the final version when you are satisfied.

I`d prefer to keep it real footage, thanks for the thought though.

Nathan, I suspect thatyour offer of a flat $50 is part of the lack of response. The cost of the aircraft will easily exceed that, then there is the investment of time to get to the airport, shoot the video, then return home, pack and mail. I'd be surprised if anyone would invest all that time, and likely $100 plus in aircraft expense for your offered sum. Also, the needed scenery is not available everywhere either, further limiting available shooters.

But mainly, I think you may be a little low - is all.

Nathan Quattrini February 1st, 2008 07:13 PM

Thats fine, if cost kills it so be it, I am in debt already up to my eyeballs and still offering to pay, mainly I am seeking people who aren`t money hounds and care about the art as well. Those are whom I will turn to in the future when I have paying projects rather than those who only care about the price tag on things.

Besides the people that have offered have all read this post and know what I`m paying, why respond if its not enough pay?

Andrew Dickerman February 5th, 2008 08:19 PM

Nathan,

Yes, a balloon would do what you want. Beth and Joe Hamilton operate Balloon Fantasies in Rehoboth. I've been up with them a couple of years ago. They might help you out some way.

I'm a photojournalist so I have millions of still photos but not much commercial video, though I'll be doing a lot now with my xh-a1.
