I'm here in Norfolk

Hello Virginia! I'm a director at WTKR the CBS affiliate in Norfolk. I play around a lot at home on my G5 using Final Cut HD, Photoshop CS, and After Effects. I'm always trying to learn more and get involved with people trying to challenge themselves and come up with interesting projects to do. As of today I'm in the market for a Canon GL2 or XL1, whichever one I can get someone to sell me first. Until then I don't have a lot of "completed" projects or clips to put on your reel. Anywho, it's nice to know we got some guys around interested in some of the same things. I hope to hear from some of you in the future.

P.S. Be sure to post any of your work in the 'DV for the Masses' section of this forum. There aren't a lot of vidoes from our area in there.

Business Opportunity/Partnership

About me:
I am a professional photographer (still) that specializes in
shooting Martial Arts, both schools and mostly competitions
accross the country.
www.onaimaging.com

I am very well known in this vertical market and respected
as a professional. I also shoot, quite a bit, NHL Hockey including
the NJ Devils.

I both live and house my studios in Freehold, NJ (Central NJ)
and I am a single father to an 8 year old boy that lives with
me. (He just received his brownbelt)

I also own a Large format/Fine Art business that is doing quite well.
www.onaprinting.com

Equipment
Many Apple Mac's, large HD Displays (Apple) laptops (G4) and
all lic. software.
On the imaging side I own 11meg cameras (Canon), Hasselblad (med format), proper lighting etc...
Also, for the large format printing side I own a HP5500ps 60" 7 color
awesome printer.

New Business (possible partnership)

To scale my Photography business and add new services I'm beginning
to explore HDV. Now, NO ONE is filiming the Martial Arts competitions in
HD and there are simply 100's of market opps coming about including
working with some networks. (Cable)

I have quite a number of relationships on the high level in this market
and am already discussing HD filming the largest Martial Arts competition
in the US for 2005.

Now, while I understand Photography and imaging, I'm simply a novice
in HDV and film but I'm learning fast. I now own the JVC 10U and have
already begun my ed in filming and editing. I do have quite a way to go.

But to enter the market quickly I may need to partner with someone
(You?) that has the SOLID skills on that end and is a Professional with
a proven and respect track record. Sorry, I can't partner with anyone
just new to the market or a novice at this time.

Are you interested? Do you have the professionalism that is demanded
in a vertical market that is all about respect?

By the way, one thing that business has exposed me to, Money (funding) is
pretty easy IF you have the business plan, the numbers and market make sense and the Management team is rock solid.

Thanks for reading.
Very best,
Tom

Hello Tom,
So, to summarize:
  • You are a professional still photographer specializing in shooting martial arts events.
  • You bought a JVC HDV camera and suddenly see potential to expand into video services.
  • You want to partner with an experienced videographer specializing in high-definition (or HDV) production.
The goal would presumably be to quickly add video production to your services?

Tom Aellis September 30th, 2004 11:54 AM

Almost...

Ken, almost correct.

I did not "Sudenly" see potential.

I purchased the JVC after exploring this market with a number of
my clients and doing my own DD.

I'm no dummy, I've been priv'd to be with some of the
most sucessful mgt teams in the world including helping
build the second largest IPO in Nasdaq's history. (NOT a founder)

thanks for writting Ken.
Very best,
Tom

Ken Tanaka September 30th, 2004 01:02 PM

Tom,
Sorry for the chicken/egg error.

Well, let's see, the largest IPO I know of would have been the AT&W Wireless IPO in 2000, although AWE is listed on NYSE, not Nasdaq. The largest Nasdaq-listed IPO might have been the recent Google offering at around $2.7 bil.

Justin Sammarco September 30th, 2004 01:28 PM

Ken, thanks again. That would be Sycamore Networks.
Generated 31 billion of Market cap on the first day. (crazy)

Justin, I'm sending you email this morning.

very best,
Tom
