HDV aspect ratio
Hi Guys,
I'm working with footage from my new HVR V1E in After Effects, but am wondering how I should deal with the HDV aspect ratio of 1,33. So my project/comps are 1440x1080 in aspect 1,33 However when I export as mov (ie photoJpeg or h264) the image is too high, of course. My question is: where should I stretch the pixels out? should I define the project as 1915x1080 and render that out.. ? ..or am I missing something else..? regards, Johan |
HD AR for 1920 x 1080 is 1.78
1440 x 1080 is the spatially compressed (in codec) way that many HD codecs save precious bits, creating AR of 1.33 mathematically, to be extracted to 1920 x 1080 using a PAR of 1.2 |
I recall the behavior of AfterEffects regarding the pixel aspect ratio changed recently - I think between AE7 and CS3. In the latest version you should be able to specify the correct PAR for the imported files using 'interpret footage'....with older versions you specify it at the export stage. I think.

Yes, the correct PAR is/can be specified in the 'interpret' dialog. It is 1,33
so just to be sure: the correct way to operate is: - working with the footage in 1,33 PAR, with Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction ON - making a new comp, 1920 x 1080 square pixels - dragging the actual comp in the new one, make fit - render it out. is that right? are there other (better) ways tot do it? regards, Johan |
