Editting xdcam ex files over a network...

Hi,

Am trying to set up a system something like this

- central storage disk/machine/raid box with media on it
- access to the box by 2 machines to allow editting of different files at the same time- ie 2 different projects at the same time, not accessing the same files but just the same storage vault.

I'd like to be able to play out 2 or 3 lines of EX on the timelines without too much of a problem.

Can anyone help- what format should the stoarge box take? How should the computers connect t it? We currently get 190mbps across our 1gig network- is that enough?

Many thanks in advance- I know this is a pretty unglamorous questions.

One idea is to "check out" the projects you want to work on to the local machine - ie copy the files to your local machine instead of trying to run over the network in real time.

Copy the files ahead of time, work on them, move them back.

I'd worry that you can't really control network traffic and every now and again "something" will interfere with your network performance.

If you have a managed switch and if your mobos have two NIC's each, you can double your network performance to 2 gbps and manage the priorities of the 2 editing PC's to get a preferential treatment for network traffic over other PC's.
