why so many m2t files when capturing?
 

So, why does this camcorder take so many different clips every time you hit the pause/record button. I guess its an mpeg stream, so there is a start and an end, but its seeminly ridiculous to force me to capture 100 separate clips...anyone figure out how to stop this or do you all just suffer with a zillion clips after capturing.

This is a function of the way you use the camera. MPEG2-TS data is not like DV -- it can't do a seemless edit between one recording and the next. If you stop and start the camera a lot you will end up with a lot of separate scene files.

Because there's NO TIMECODE in these cams' HD output, I actually find it very helpful that *each take* is a separate file.

Next best thing would be to have HD capture utility that could index the segments on tape, showing their duration and first frame, and then present you with the list.

You then would uncheck the segments you aren't interested in, and make the PC capture the rest.

I'm not aware of such HD utility being available yet, but this is a screaming necessity, if I can say that :)

ugh, its worse than I thought....no time code?? I feel like I'm going back in time with this camera, rather than making any technological advance. Thanks for the tips, they are appreciated.
