converting m2t to image sequence

What is the better way to convert the .m2t files into images sequence, like tiff or targa ?

Heath McKnight November 17th, 2003 05:35 PM

Can anyone answer Ariel's question?

On the PC:

Aspect HD and with Premiere you can export to either TIFF or TGA (Targa) sequences.

If you don't have Aspect HD you can use VirtualDub (freeware) to convert most AVIs for TGA sequences -- this is fairly easy.

To convert *.m2t to an AVI can be tricky; I have only had success with GraphEdit [very geeky], when I'm not using Aspect HD tools. To use GraphEdit you well need some experience and a suitable MPEG2-TS decoder. Elecard is a fast MPEG2 decoder ($20) yet is very fussy when exporting to other formats. MainConcept MPEG2 decoder (cames with Adobe Premiere) is much less fussy (so it should be able you connect up with HUFFYUV or similar) but it is more sentive to errors in the HDV data (you might see splats.) As you can see M2T to AVI is the difficult part, that is why the CineForm CFCapture utility has a conversion panel for this very purpose.

Thanks, David. You're a cut above the rest!

On a Mac, OS-X:

1) Demux .m2t to .m2v

2) Convert .m2v to a QuickTime Movie (.mov) using either mpeg2decX or MacMpeg2Converter(MM2C) utilities. Select codec using the "QuickTime" button. Select 'TGA' (Targa) or TIFF from the 29 options.

3) Open the resulting .mov file and select:

QuickTime Player > File > Export > Movie to Image Sequence

Good luck,

Maury
