HDV and Timecode?
Aloha,
Is there any app, PC or MAC, that supports HDV and timecode? |
Supports in what way? What do you want to do? I assume the
timecode is also just saved in the DV headers that are still being created... |

Pay my way and I'll come down and personally explain - well antthing you want! With winter coming - I'd love to be THERE. Back to reality. All computer editors use some variety of time code. That's the only way they can make frame accurate edits. Cheaper DV stuff creates new time code when capturing. The better capture programs allow you to keep the time code that's on the original tape, so you can re-capture and use the edit points you have already identified. Dave |
I understand that all editors support TC, but I have yet to find any HDV footage with timecode. That is my biggest problem with HDV right now is NO timecode.
|
Hmmm, that would be weird. Are you sure the problem is not
somewhere in the capture / convert phase or the NLE instead of the camera? How are you capturing / converting the footage and what for NLE are you using? I don't have a HDV camera myself so I can't see it for myself. Any other HDV user out there that can chime in? |
Rob,
I have an FX1 and I capture with LumiereHD 1.5b. With LumiereHD it just has a start capture and stop capture buttom. So far I have found no capture utility that gives me a file with TC. |
I assume this program "captures" to an MPEG-2 file? In that case
I'm not surprised there is no timecode indeed. I was talking about if you just capture to AVI with the DV stream in there that contains an MPEG-2 file and edit that with a program that would understand this construct you could have timecode. I'm not sure if MPEG-2 even supports timecode, let alone if an NLE could read it (doubtful, since only now are we beginning to enter the MPEG-2 market). It sounds like this is something you will just have to live with (same as almost no capture or edit support yet).... Sorry! |
