NVIDIA Quadro 4000

I was looking at the minimum system requirements for the above card and it says this exactly...Intel Core i5, i7, or Xeon processor or later, AMD Phenom or Opteron class processor or later.

I can see the i5 or i7, but the Xeon has been around for eons (pun intended) and the AMD Phenom is a quad core of a similar vintage to the Intel quad cores. What is your take on this and would you think an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9950 @2.83 GHz would satisfy the minimum system requirements?

It should work on a quad core. Look at it this way - if the motherboard pci slot can accept the card, then you can use whatever CPU the motherboard is designed for. However -

If you are going for a quadro card and then opting for a 'smaller' CPU, then you could face various performance hits and speed bottlenecks depending on what applications you use. Almost all professional applications use both CPU and GPU to compute, and they try to find the right balance. Skimping on one may seriously affect the performance of the other.

Thanks, Sareesh. Point taken.

I think I'm going to give it a try and understand I may have significant frustration until I can replace this computer. I am maxed out with RAM at 8GB and effectively maxed out with this socket type, so this looks to be the last NLE battle this computer will fight.
