Easiest way for HDV to quicktime h.264 conversion
 

I just want to do a simple conversion of a HDV transport stream to a quicktime h.264

I have quicktime pro but it won't open any hdv stuff I have here. Doesn't seem to matter the extension or the container. I've tried converting with hdtvtompeg among other things.

The clip is originally from a JVC HD100 but I've tried to download other HDV clips and Quicktime pro won't open them.

So what is the easiest way to do convert a hdv stream to a quicktime h.264 without an NLE installed or decompressing the stream to uncompressed or another codec.

I'm on a PC with quicktime Pro 7.0.4

Anyone know a method or another piece of software to do this on PC without an NLE specifically so that I will end up with a quicktime mov file. I know the mainconcept encoder does h.264 but it won't output a quicktime file.

Just tried it - work great! Option to output H.264 material either as .mov or .mp4.

Thanx I just realized that its not quicktimes fault it won't open the streams, its because I don't have the mpeg-2 component for quicktime.

If I use quicktime alternative can I still do a quicktime h.264 encode?

Had tried many times but failed to install mpegstreamclip for Windows XP!

The version presently on their website is working fine for me with XP Pro (Service Pack 2 installed).

Are you sure you have a compatible version of Quicktime installed?

My Windows version is XP (SP1). Just before I try mpegstreamclip, I installed KL QuickTime Alternative 1.61 and uninstalled previous QuickTime version.

It is OK now.

I encode a m2t file to mp4 file with mpegstreamclip. How could I play back the mp4 file?

I had tried vlc player and Media Player Classic but have no luck.

I get excellent M2T playback two ways: With Nero's Showtime media player and with Windows Media Player and the NVidia Purevideo decoder plug.

After you install it, just play the files back in Windows Media Player 10 and watch the difference. There is a little NVidia icon that opens on the task bar and lets you know that the decoder is functioning. If you click on it you can tweak the playback settings. With some cards PureVideo will accelerate WMV playback as well (but not mine).

It works beautifully for me. Not only do I get excellent M2T playback, but the CPU usage has dropped from 100% to somewhere in the 30s! The playback is deinterlaced, has pulldown removed when appropriate, and looks stunning, all with the graphics card doing most of the work!
