Anyone capturing and cutting XL H1 in HDV?

I've had issues with Final Cut Pro 5 capturing XL H1 in HDV, even in 60i. Has anyone been able to capture in HDV and cut, no matter the platform and NLE?

Thanks,

heath

Yes, no problem using Final Cut Pro 5 and taking it in HDV via firewire. I've now switched to using a Kona card and taking it in DVCProHD, but before had done a number of HDV tests and it worked fine.

Interesting and good to hear. Does that include 24f and 30f?

I have had bad results with FCP and Blackmagic card. Not Blackmagic's fault. I definitely cannot capture to FCP in 24f or 30f mode until Apple comes out with new software. I have also had considerable difficulty and enless hours online to tech support attempting to capture 1080i -- and failing.

I seem to be able to actually capture using HDV native codec or apple's temporary HDV one, but, although FCP apparently captures, I am unable to display it or edit it. I can, however, see it while I capture it.

I'm now waiting for Apple to produce the goods. I'm annoyed about this because the guy who did the demo at Birns and Sawyer in Hollywood told all of us that Apple would be producing a codec in January.

So there.

Please post any successes you have had so that I can try them.

Definitely not. It does not work at all in 24F mode...I didn't try 30F. But if you're doing 1080i stuff, it's fine taking the HDV in via firewire. It's just annoying though, because every clip comes in separately.

Thx.

FCP 5 allows clips to be captured all at once and then it seperates each one.

New program for HDV capture.

This is a program which captures HDV 24f into FCP, so they say.

I can't manage to get it to capture, but apparently other people have had success with it on the Canon, JVC and other HDV cameras.

Please try it and report your successes and failures. I don't want to wait for Apple to cough up their codec for the Canon.
