HDR-HC3: What is the best HD capture s/w package?

Warning: Neophyte

I've had the camera about a month now and tried Vegas, Premier, HDVSplit and others. HDVSplit seems to provide the greatest value and is surprisingly a small package. Vegas never would pick up the HD output but would capture DV just fine.

So my questions are:
1. What is the best to use for HD capture?

2. Do you have to capture in real time? (Can the raw data be transferred directly from the tape and then edited?)

I think HDV Split is the best one. You have to capture in real time if you're capturing from tape.

Thanks, Alex. I guess I am going to have to hold out for an HDD HDV camcorder to get to where I really want to be...Drag and drop clips using Windows Explorer much the same as you would in most any digital camera nowadays.
