Could you help me on this, this is confusing
 

I've read that Vegas 7 is the only NLE that doesn't support Native HDV editing.
Is that true?

I'm new to HDV, don't have my cam yet, but I'm thinking about FCP or Vegas 7. The platform doesn't matter to me, as an IT tech I use both platforms.
I've used Vegas and Imovie for DV before and I'm familiar with both.

On the Final Cut Pro site I've read that HDV editing is superior. They say that an intermediary codec degrade the output quality. They go to extra length to say why it is. They explain that their lower products, Imovie and Final cut Pro express use an intermediary codec, but that FCP 5 doesn't because they want to be sure the quality of the edited footage is not degraded by an intermediary Codec. Is that true?

But, on the other end I've heard from all other NLE makers, Vegas, Avid, Premiere, that you MUST use an intermediary codec. So what's going here? Who's right, who's lying ?

Why would FCP achieve better result without an intermediary codec while anybody use one?

i wish somebody could really sort this out for me without falling in a NLE war.

From an Avid standpoint, it does edit HDV natively. Although it does a great job of transcoding to the better Avid Dnxcel codec which will maintain quality in rendering and compositing.
