INSTANT HD _Anyone tried it? Is it worth it?

Any one tried Redgiant INSTANT HD with an XL2 or DVX100?
How much better can the footage really look? I want to buy but am skeptical.
Thanks.

Have not used Instant HD. I have used Resizer 2.02 from Digital Anarchy. Someone else had done the work of comparing the two and felt Resizer did a better job. I can say that Resizer comes with a de-interlacer that rocks! It will take a while to chew through if you use the highest quality de-interlace, but the results are amazing.

Any of these products will not make your footage 'HD'. These are intelligent upscalers that get you to a higher pixel count without sacrificing too much quality. The results would be best with the XL2 if you shoot 24pa widescreen. With the XL2 having native 16:9 ccds I feel it gets the edge unless you have an anamorphic lens adapter on the DVX.

Yes, I do have an XL2 and a DVX with an Anamorphic lens.

Well, it looks better than a resize done using Premiere's or AFX's native resizing capability. It looks about the same as you could achieve with, say, a Lanczos3 resize in Virtualdub.

But...it is heckava convenient! Just a single click to apply it as an effect on your existing timeline, and a 2nd click to select the appropriate template.

Templates include SD templates by the way ... in case you want to put that Youtube video on DVD ;)
