Test results Positve! Downscale HDV to SD
Positive test Results with freeware Mpeg streamclip (Windows).
Import file / export as avi. / Use Apple dvcpro PAL/NTSC codec / Quality slider / Frame blending , Better downscaling , Interlace / Deinterlace Field dominance and all the frame size presets available. Editing on Prem Pro 2 and Prospect / Downscale all my final avi's via Steamclip before encoding with TMPG or Cinemacraft. Viva ! |
MPEG Streamclip is pretty close to VirtualDub in resizing quality. I did some tests today, and it looks sharper, but at the same time it has more compression artifacts than my VDub test file... Do you know what resizing filter is Streamclip using?

According to Streamclip interface / professional 2d fir scaler.
i convert my prospect hd avi files with streamclip / have not tested m2t files . Thanks for feedback. Herman. |
I've had very good results skipping the Vdub step and just taking my full HDV Cineform file into TMPEGEnc (Tsunami) and using that program to down rez a HDV file to a SD 16:9 DVD. It is much much better than Premier Pro's encoding to MPEG2 for DVD. I was using the Vdub step but don't see any real loss in quality by just skipping it and going right to TMPEGEnc. Thoughts? Anyone else had similar results?

Straight TMPG / V/Dub / & Streamclip
The route and reason i,am using Streamclip to resize //
My cineform avi's via streamclip and then encoded in cinemacraf. Cinemacraft do not accept Cineform avi,s therefore i push my clips via Mpeg steamclip where i can utilize the unlimited pass encoding /1-3 or four times for real outstanding results. The timefactor / encoding speeds at multipass encoding suits my workflow. Cinemacraft allows me to do a scematic bitrate analysis of the encoded footage afterwards where i can acces a problem area of the encoding based on the encoding analysis to tweak and re encode that specific section.
